(Washington, DC) – Like a broken record Republicans in the House and Senate are willing to wreck our economy by refusing to compromise and insisting on their radical plan to balance the budget on the backs of seniors and the middle class by slashing Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security while giving tax breaks to millionaires, hedge fund managers and big corporations.






Today, at over 100 events across the country Americans continued to make their voices heard and demanded a debt deal that protects seniors and the middle class while making sure the rich and corporations pay their fair share.






AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said, “Republican elected leaders are acting like dictators – putting their political interests before the good of the country. They’re willing to throw working families and the working poor overboard just to preserve tax cuts for billionaires and hedge fund managers. With over 14 million Americans out of work we need Congress to focus on job creation. And massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid will only hurt any effort to rebuild our economy.”






AFSCME President Gerald McEntee said, “”Republican leaders need to get their priorities straight. They appear willing to throw the economy back into a tail spin and deny Social Security checks to seniors, benefits to veterans and care to sick children – all to save face with their corporate donors. Main Street has had enough.”






Alliance for Retired Americans President Barbara Easterling said, “Retirees know firsthand that Medicare is one of America’s greatest success stories, helping generations of seniors afford to see a doctor and fill a prescription.”






HCAN Executive Director Ethan Rome said, “It’s an all-out assault on the middle class in order to protect the richest people and corporations when we need a balanced approach to avert a crisis that will wreck the economy. People are fed up with the Republicans, who want to slash Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security just to protect tax breaks for millionaires, billionaires and big corporations. People are taking action because they want Congress to create jobs and the Republicans to stop wasting precious time trying to score political points.”






MoveOn.org Executive Director Justin Reuben said, “The Republicans in Washington are doing everything in their power to protect tax breaks for millionaires and corporations, even if it means throwing our entire economy off a cliff. It is time for Congress to pass a debt deal that does not further damage our economy, and does not ask seniors and the middle class to bear the burden of raising the debt ceiling.”






NEA Executive Director John I. Wilson said, “There is a fundamental question before Congress. Will Congressional Republicans balance the budget on the backs of those least able to afford additional sacrifice? Will they cater to Wall Street and large corporate interests at the expense of America’s children, seniors and the middle class? Or will they put partisan politics aside to do what’s right for all Americans?”






Protect Your Care Communications Director Eddie Vale said, “If Republicans continue this reckless path and refuse to compromise they will wreck our economy, senior citizens won’t get their Social Security or Medicare and military families will lose their benefits.”






SEIU President Mary Kay Henry said, “Republicans in Congress are playing chicken with the full faith and credit of the United States and proposing policies that would force seniors to leave their nursing homes, children to give up their health care and working families to say goodbye to their jobs. While Americans are struggling, Congressional Republicans are taking this irresponsible and extremist approach so that corporations and millionaires can keep their tax giveaways. That is both unacceptable and morally wrong.”






US Action Director of Strategy and Policy Alan Charney said, “A strong middle class isn’t built by accident. It is built because of responsible investments we make together. Our safety net – programs like Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security – represents these types of investments and scaling back is penny-wise and pound-foolish. The money exists to pay for these investments. We just need leaders in Congress to work for all Americans, not just the richest and most powerful Wall Street speculators.”






Today’s events are the continuation of a massive grassroots lobbying campaign to prevent a debt ceiling deal that slashes Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security while giving tax breaks to millionaires, private jet owners and big corporations:






AFL-CIO activists sent over 190,000 e-mails to Congress and the White House and made 3,500 calls to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.


AFSCME, Americans United for Change and NEA have generated 34,709 phone calls to targeted members of the House and Senate over the past three weeks.


Alliance for Retired Americans held 30 Medicare anniversary events in July to both celebrate Medicare’s many accomplishments and warn seniors of threats to its future.

HCAN has held more than 50 events the past two weeks across the country demanding members of Congress stop protecting millionaires and billionaires and preserve Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security for middle-class Americans. HCAN supporters this month also made 5,000 calls to senators and representatives’ offices.



MoveOn.org Civic Action & American Dream Movement held 800 events, with over 20,000 participants, including one in every Congressional District, this past Tuesday.


NEA mobilized tens of thousands of educators in every state of the union and in addition to their phone calls sent 28,000 e-mails to Members of Congress.


Protect Your Care held 97 events in eight states in July telling Congress to keep their hands off Medicare and Medicaid.


SEIU has participated in a series of local actions at Congressional offices to support Medicaid, has generated tens of thousands of phone calls and emails into Congress, have produced multiple television, newspaper, web and radio ads shaming Republican for holding average Americans hostage to the interests of millionaires and corporate CEO’s.


US Action partners and affiliates held over 100 events in July. US Action generated over 42,000 messages to Congress in the past two weeks calling on Congress to tax billionaires and cut Pentagon spending instead of slashing Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

Liberals generally find the administration of the death penalty to be abhorrent, Un-Christian, Immoral, Inhuman, Barbaric and Backward.
The natural compassion and true Christian Nature that drives most moral Liberals demands the definition of the death penalty as cruel and unusual and inhumane punishment.  The Liberal believes that Man must not play “God” and that The Divine Creator is the only person privileged to take a life for whatever the reason.
In this attitude toward the bestiality of demanding the life of a condemned criminal, the Liberal view reveals the depth of a “Christian” Ethic that many extremely defensive  Conservatives cannot imagine in their wildest imaginations.
A lot of Conservatives run around shouting from the rooftops about how “Evil,” and “Immoral,” and “Godless” Liberals are, but at the same time, they are licking their chops waiting for news of the next execution in Cell Block 0.
We have seen evidence, especially before the advent of DNA testing, that dozens, perhaps even hundreds of innocent persons have met their death at the hands of some public executioner for a crime that they were, ultimately, exonerated of having committed.
Because of this possibility of inadvertently killing an innocent person and because of the deep-rooted belief that ultimate justice such as death can only be meted out by God, the Liberal prefers the humanity of incarcerating the convicted rather than participating in another murder by taking a life.
The Liberal believes that the old Mosaic Law that demanded an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth has been replaced by the more merciful example of Jesus Christ.
Now, I know from experience that the minute I try to quote Scripture, the bible wavers are going to start telling me, “You are out of context! You are mis-quoting! That is not what that passage of Scripture really means!  The Greek says”… and a  dozen other little arguments to put me down and prove that they are right, no matter what.
But here is the Scripture that I believe touches on the idea of capital punishment and it is found in Matthew, Chapter 5, beginning with Verse 38: “…Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
39. “But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40.  “And if any man will sue thee at the law, and  take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain…”
Now this goes on for awhile and finally comes to verse 44: “But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you;…”
And then on through the end of the chapter.
I cannot find, anywhere in that King James VERSION of the Bible that the Far Right Wing Religious love so much any mention anywhere that  executing a murderer is the appropriate punishment for taking a life.
But then, I have found that many of  those who claim to be  really dedicated Conservatives are, after all, a law unto themselves (In their own minds, anyway)…no one else is right about anything…ever…under any circumstances…and they are so locked in with their thinking as to be unreachable, unteachable;  a stiff necked and stubborn generation…and therefore, it is totally useless to try and reason with them on a rational basis.
In their insistence on the death penalty, a whole lot of  Conservatives who naively claim to operate from the standpoint of “Christian” Morals and Values are deceiving themselves, but they are not fooling an observant nation and perceptive world  around them.
The Conservative side often  seems to tend  to believe that murder-for-murder is the appropriate deterrent to capital crime. 
Since they seem so intent on wanting to re-do The Constitution of The United States in an effort to capture the clearer “Originalist” intent of The Founding Fathers, I am sure that if they were able to achieve that goal, it would be no time at all until they busied themselves with doing the entire justice system   over to the point that holding any opposing viewpoint to theirs would be a capital crime as well.
These are a highly intolerant force in politics.  They desperately hate Gays, they cannot abide immigrants and they definitely have a thing against the elderly and the poor.  I believe with all my heart that many of  the Right Wing “Christian” Extremist’s  believe in the doctrine of “The Survival Of The Fittest” and that they can be,  individually and  collectively, greedy and selfish to the point that they would devour their own if their own showed any sign of weakness at all.
 In my view, many Conservatives tend, generally, to be very expert at taking things away from people.  (Including Life itself, apparently.)
This mind-set operates in an intellectual vacuum that allows for the most henious of potentials.
The Conservative mind-set has demonstrated how it  can generate needless military conflict on the lamest set of circumstances and excuses.
It can deny, without the slightest twinge of conscience, needed financial assistance to the elderly populace.  Thus, this mind-set seeks to rip the guts out of Social Security and Medicare and Aid To Dependent Children and virtually every Social Safety Net program ever enacted by government for the benefit of those who need help the most.
This can happen, because that mindset actually seems to believe  that anyone who has not made themselves rich is a “Bad” person and deserves their poverty and, therefore, is not entitled to any help that might cost “Honest” taxpayers any money.
This is an attitude that is totally opposed to the “Christian” value system claimed by many Conservatives– especially the hard-core ones..the rigid, unflinching, unchangeable, stubborn “Hard” Right or what I like to call “The Far Right Wing Extreme.”
In the administration of Justice, like in everything else, the staunch far Right Wing Conservative Extremist falls far short of the Glory Of God they love to tout as their driving manifesto and they show themselves to be devilishly hypocritical in that respect.
Now! Are all Conservatives like that?  No! Not at all!
There are moderates and there are many shades and varieties of Conservative.  The same is true of the Liberal. There is a whole spectrum of both ideologies that range from the mundane to the Sublime.
Of late, I am of the opinion that the Old Order Conservatives have been infiltrated, and in many cases replaced by a new and more militantly vocal segment who is driven by some kind of general anger at government over most every imaginable issue.
This new order has risen carrying guns to political rallies, carrying Hate Signs proclaiming a willingness to mount an armed insurrection against the government in order to force their policies upon the nation and in general, acting like a bunch of storm troopers.
But, as much as they scream and shout and as much as they wave their yellow flag with the snake on it and as much as they claim to be a “Grass Roots” Movement of “Millions” of “Ordinary” citizens, they are being watched by the rest of America and the world and their claim to being based in “Christian” Ethic is laid absolutely bare before the eyes of the world.
When you watch a few of these assembled morons shouting their slogans and throwing bricks through government office building windows and spitting on members of Congress , you can quickly get a clear idea of exactly why they favor the death penalty.  It is not a very pretty picture, but it is a picture of savage hate that only the far Right Wing Extremist’s can conjure and project so expertly.
Prejudice and intolerance have been their hallmark for many generations now and I, personally, don’t think they are ever going to evolve. I think they gnash their teeth and tear at their garments at the thought of having to share the world with people who do not accept their rigidly hypocritical views on things.
I have seen an example of that in my own household where two people that I loved very much have now totally rejected me because I do not fit their mould of what a “Christian” ought to be. They got into a version of this Far Right Wing Religious craziness and are almost cultic in their adherence to the ravings of some of the absolute lunatics from the ultra-conservative side of the political spectrum.

DOES THE GOVERNMENT DIP INTO SOCIAL SECURITY RESERVES IN ORDER TO PAY OTHER  THINGS IN THE GENERAL BUDGET? 
I keep reading all these things about how Blogs should be written — all the technical stuff that says every post should be original material and all that stuff.
Then, I read where it is alright to link to another article in order to give information to the blog readers, but that it is not cool to “Scrape” information off other sources word for word.
Well, I do not want to start “Scraping” stuff word for word because that is not professional, that is not courteous and that is not cool.
But, when it comes to something really important like this story about how the government might be grabbing money from the Social Security Fund to pay other bills with,  I feel perfectly justified in providing a link to the source.
By the way, here that link is and it is important enough with all the talk of how Social Security might be going bankrupt and all that stuff… i think everyone should read this:

 I am of the opinion that one of the most frightening aspects of Right Wing Christian  Extremism is a mistaken belief that America is, somehow, “A Christian Nation” and because of that is, again somehow, ordained or commissioned to become an international agency for administering The Will of God to unbelievers. (A doctrine called “American Exceptionalism.”)
I remember one elected official  who seemed  absolutely determined that the “Evil Doers” of this world come to understand the righteousness of America.  I have always wondered, personally, when some bunch of Right Wing Extremeists will get themselves elected to the high offices of this Land and proceed on a “Mission From God” to bring the “Light Of Christ” to “The Heathen nations” by persuasion of  military force.
I think some of them are crazy enough to try anything!
It is already my understanding that, according to the “Enlightened Christian Revelations” of some on  the Religious Extremist Right Wing that all Liberals, Progressives and Democrats in America are already the working agents of Satan and cannot, under any circumstances, (Except for “Conversion” to Right Wing Politics) be saved from eternal damnation.
I just cannot wait until “Christians” from the Far Fundamentalist Extreme Right re-write the Constitution Of The United States into “Originalist” interpretations of The Founding Fathers’ “Christian” beliefs and make that modified  document the basis of The American Legal System.  I am  sure that, eventually, some of the “Originalists” who get involved in that little project will try to  find a justification to re-establish many of the more horrific punishments for crimes and sins found in early Biblical Accounts.
Won’t it be absolutely wonderful if the Religious Right takes  over the government and makes their “King  James VERSION of Christian Values the foundation for the Public Education System (Junior gets a full dose of prayer and the Gospel at the beginning and end of every school day and sometime during every academic class period.).It doesn’t matter whether “Junior” wants to be preached at or not.  If he is to be a viable part of the “System,” he will have to “Get With The Program” or be sent to some remedial brainwash such as a remote “Jesus Camp” somewhere until he gets his priorities straight.
If you think such as this cannot happen in America, then a closer look may be needed at some of the legislations that are being pushed in some areas. Some areas see a rise in activism for converting The Public School System into a “Privatized” Charter School System.  This is supposed to provide more “Choice” in educational opportunities.  In many instances the touted “Choice” may be between a curriculum that includes “Religion” as part of the classroom setting or one that does not. As I see it, the “Charter” school advocates tend to be more Right Wing Religious-oriented and they seem to desperately want  prayer in their schools. I can imagine that this must create a problem for students who aren’t especially oriented to this kind of indoctrination.
Can’t wait to have the government decree that I have to have a tatoo of the Ten Commandments burned onto my wrist or forehead and that I will not be able to buy or sell anything  unless I have this mark on me.

I bet no one but me ever gave consideration to the possibility that The Anti Christ can come in the image of the Real Savior, did they? He will come!  He will come looking altogether righteous! Most likely He will appear at the behest of some Right Wing Extremist program of some kind and most likely He will come as a political leader, speaking in tongues and foaming at the mouth. He will be a “Man of Peace” and  the world will fall in love with Him.  He will seem  to be an utter political genius! And He will have the full force and backing of most of the Extreme Right Wing Religious nut bags.  But, I digress!
Imagine a country in which the schools, the media and the government itself  will be heavily engaged in the business of “Preaching The Good Word Of The Lord” continually from  every radio, television  and loud speaker and from every magazine cover, newspaper front page and Internet site on the Web, and on every Tee Shirt and mule’s behind that can be gathered, cornered, harvested or rounded up.
In this kind of a world, you can forget about women’s rights. In this world the women have but two or three significant roles: to cook, mend clothes,  care for the sick, help in the fields, and remain, for the most part, ignorant, barefoot and pregnant. Women’s careers? Forget it! Women shall become truly “Obedient” to the man of the house as The Scripture says! (Actual slaves to Chauvinism).(As they once were, back in that day–)
In the amazing world of the Far  Right Wing Christian Fundamentalist/Evangelicalist Extremeist, there will be no Social Security, No Medicaid, No Medicare.  There will be no farm subsidies, no food inspection and no pharmaceutical safety regulations.  In that world, there will be no food stamps, no financial assistance for the poor and no medical treatment for anyone who cannot afford it.  The Federal Government (If it should somehow manage to survive) will be in only three businesses: (1) Keeping the citizens in line, (2) Protecting the Nation from attack and (3) protecting private property rights.  Every single dissident voice will be silenced either by imprisonment, eviction from the country or execution in the Name of Gee-Zuss.”
How close is all this nightmare to becoming a reality?

“Let Freedom Ring…” is the opening phrase on a popular American song and it seems to be a favorite among Republicans and some of their chosen Right Wing Talk Radio Icons.
The Republicans claim to be all about individual freedom and liberty.  I hear them say that all the time and I am hearing it more and more from their offshoot, The Tea Party Movement as well.
Well, it does my heart good to know that The Republicans and their allies are the protectors and preservers of American individual Liberty and personal freedoms!
I am equally as warmed in my heart by their seemingly never-ending attention to making sure that “Big Government” keeps their nose out of the lives of citizens.
But, after all that, I am a bit puzzled about something new that I have just learned about.
According to some reports that I have read, it seems as though The House Republicans (You remember them–they are the ones who have obstructed everything the Democrats have tried to do since Obama was elected…)
Well now, according to reports I have seen, this group is at work to get some kind of law passed that would force Internet providers and, perhaps, Web Companies too, to store records of their users’ activities online for later review by the police.
I cannot believe this is happening, of course!
I am sure it is just more of that pack of Liberal lies being pushed by commie, pinko Progressives like myself to confuse issues…

I am equally as sure that most of my rube Conservative associates will dismiss such revelations as “Pure Liberal Speculation” or something like that.

When I was a young man, about a hundred years ago, (Or so it seems sometimes), I was told by all the wisened sages around me that anyone who did anything that could be considered  harmful to the United States of America was more of an enemy than a friend.
I believe I was serving in The Army National Guard at the time I first heard those words. In addition, I was taught that saying or doing anything that might be construed as an attempt to overthrow the government fell in the same category as overt aggressive action against the nation.
Can an act that has the potential for bringing about  catastrophic results to the economy by a simple administrative proclamation be seen by anyone as a gesture  of friendship toward The United States?
Right now, I am hearing that there are two or three things called “Credit Rating Agencies” that are said to have the power to cause the AAA Credit Rating of The United States to be “Down Graded” just by saying a few seemingly “Magic” words.
It is my understanding that this threat of a down grade by these “Credit Rating Agencies” is, somehow tied to all the confusion going on in Washington centered around the fight over the raising of the national debt ceiling limit.
I am told that if these “Credit Rating Agencies” actually “Downgrade” the AAA Credit Rating of the United States, that ordinary citizens like myself and the readers of this blog would probably see unbelievable increases in interest rates on things like mortgages and credit cards.
I have been led to understand that if the “Credit Rating Agencies” downgrade the AAA Credit of The United States there could be some really tough Economic times— tougher, perhaps, than we have seen yet, what with all the recession and everything.
It occurred to me to ask, “Who in the Hell are these “Credit Rating Agencies” that  have the power to do this to America and why should they be privileged to do it?”
What, exactly, is their game and whose interests are they really serving?
I must confess that I haven’t the foggiest notion about the details of all this stuff, but I know one thing for sure in my heart!
I know that if there is something out there somewhere calling itself “Credit Rating Agency” and that if it has enjoyed all the financial benefits of having been free to do business in America— and if it decides to cause America harm by an act called “Downgrading The AAA Credit Rating of  America,” then that thing, whatever it is, ought to suffer some kind of penalty for trying to do harm to this nation that I love so well.
If there is such a thing and it is actually considering doing what it is said to be contemplating in regard to such a downgrade of our Credit, then I, for one, would be among the first to question just how “American” such a thing can really be!
But, what do I know?  I am nothing but one of those angry, ignorant, Godless, Commie pinko Liberals!

I have often wondered how long it might be before I hear about someone being arrested in America for exercising their Constitutional Freedoms in the expression of their chosen religion— and now I know!
It is my opinion that the whole World needs to read this blog post if they never read another word that I ever write.
AMERICAN CITIZENS HAVE NOW REPORTEDLY  BEEN ARRESTED BY POLICE FOR PRAYING IN THE ROTUNDA OF THEIR OWN NATIONAL CAPITOL IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
WHAT DOES THE U.S. CONSTITUTION SAY?
The First Amendment Of The Constitution Of The United States Of America says:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging  the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the People peaceably to assemble, and  to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
I guess the 11 people, many of whom were members of the clergy were arrested recently by Capitol Hill police while being gathered in the center of the Capitol Rotunda, singing and praying in protest of The Republican House Budget-Cutting Plan according to reports I have read.
I never thought that I would ever live to see citizens of The United States, peaceably assembled in the rotunda of their own national Capitol Building being treated in this manner for the simple act of singing and praying during a protest.
I’ll tell you one thing I have not seen yet!  I have not seen a report of a single arrest at one of those political rallies where the protesters are carrying Hate Signs, shouting obscenities and racial slurs at Congress Persons, waving that yellow flag with the snake on it, carrying loaded firearms and physically jostling people.  I have never heard about anyone being arrested at one of those things, have you?
