Opinion by John Liming
Some of what I view as the “Right-Tards” seem to me to love to scream about how our President and the current administration are trying to usher some kind of “tyranny” into the United States.
It looks to me like it has been one of their favorite song and dance routines ever since they got their virtual butts kicked in the elections of 2008 and 2012 and I guess it will go on until they get them kicked again in 2016! – - – of course I am doing a little of what I consider to be “positive wishful thinking” when I say that.
But when one looks at the way things are in some places – - voter suppression – - guns gone wild – -Right Wing governing bodies passing a lot of crazy-assed laws in some of the places where they have captured all the reins of governance – - people demonstrating – - state houses locking their citizens out to prevent dissent – - laws being passed in the wee hours of the morning on the sly – - maybe my prognostications might not be so far off after all.
Some of them seem to love to yell and scream about how they think it is that the President and/or some of those around him are always making what they refer to as a “Full out assault” on The First Amendment or on the Constitution as a whole – - – total bullcrap- – - all of it – - – but their asinine little drumbeat goes on as they search desperately for an audience to hear them – - to hear their pitiful little wails and moans and complaints and pettiness – - – as the very last spark seems to be going out in their little fantasy – - – a fantasy I have long dubbed simply, “American Radical Right Wing pseudo Religious Conservatism.”
I personally cannot think of a more dramatic assault on The Constitution than the assault that I think some of them are trying to make as they labor to re-write it into their own idea of what they think The Founding Fathers had in mind when they wrote it.
Rightie revisionism has never – - in my opinion – - been more blatant or more obvious – - and I think America sees and understands what is going on and I think that is why the Rightie ideology gets stomped during the elections that really count.
I have to laugh every time I hear one of them speak of the coming “Tyranny” that is supposed to fall on us all at the hands of our elected officials because I have my own idea of what American Tyranny might look like and in my opinion some of what I am talking about here can already be seen working full force in some of our states where voters have been ill-advised enough to allow a complete domination of their legislatures by the Radical Right and many of them are now screaming in pain, agony and buyer’s remorse over the decisions they have made – - and things are not looking all that good for the political future of some of the Right-Wads in those places – - – unless they can pull off some of their dirty little tricks to keep themselves in power – - things they have tried before and have failed at – - things like voter suppression – - gerrymandering – - redistricting – - the whole nine yards that The SCOTUS has just recently made easier for them.
Why is it that The Supreme Court of The United States suddenly finds it necessary to try to re-write the Constitution and become The Law of The Land themselves instead of allowing the Congress to legislate?
Isn’t that what just happened with the Voting Rights Act?
Didn’t the high court substitute its own will onto the Constitution countermanding the Will of The People as expressed through the duly elected Congress not once but five different times over the last 50 years?
Can someone who knows how things are supposed to work in this country tell me more about that?
How is it that America seems to me to be on the very cusp of having the second Legislative branch – - a body governing from the bench in the comfort of long dark-colored robes – - – by a group of judges who have been appointed to their positions for life?
What is the rationale behind appointing any official for a life term?
Does this not contribute to the old bugaboo that I have always heard about how power can have an adverse effect on the powerful if they get too much of it for too long a period of time? Why are there not term limits to the judges on the highest court in the land as there most likely should be?
Why does this august body still have an odd number of participants? Isn’t an odd number easily weighted toward one ideological predisposition or the other and shouldn’t the highest court in the land be “balanced” with an equal number of judges appointed from either of the concerned political entities?
Next question: What would happen if these judiciary were elected instead of appointed? Wouldn’t electing these officials lead to a more representative judiciary in the long run – - – one less likely to succumb to any form of bias?
In my opinion it is truly heartbreaking – - and I am speaking with tongue in cheek right now – - it is totally heartbreaking that so many of what I see as the know nothings on the side of the radical right cannot – - has not – - been able to impose their will completely and totally on the majority of the people – - a people who have resoundingly rejected their malarkey – - their empty-headed platforms and agendas – - for the last two major election cycles now – - and yet many of those that I think of as total half-wits from that venue seem to me to be simply unaware or do not have the common sense to admit defeat and shut their lying – - conniving – - trouble-making mouths!
So if they cannot win elections honestly I guess it is now time to try and take control of the country through the manipulations of judicial activism at the highest level?
Is that the game plan here?
Is that what the Voting Rights Act thing and The Citizens United thing was all about? – - – Was that a slow – - steady – - step-at-a-time progression toward manipulating the national politic into a situation where the right can someday grab power and hold onto it for God only knows how long a time? Permanently perhaps? Is America ready for that? That is the “Tyranny” that I worry about – - not anything the President or the administration might be doing!
There is an interesting phenomenon I have noticed:
If one goes out into the street and talks to several Righties – and I have found that it doesn’t take too much prying to find out who is and who ain’t because they seem to be very proud of themselves for some reason – - - one quickly is subject to discovering that perhaps very few of those queried can even say who The President or The Vice President is or what the name of The Attorney General is – - that is how “tuned in” some of them are – - they just return blank stares in many cases! I have tried this and I know it to be true. And these are the people the radical right is depending on to get them into power and keep them there?
I think their only hope for a viable future in American Politics is going to be to develop a larger cadre of purist hard-liners but once I have listened to some of the clown show some of them are depending on to get this job done – - the more I am convinced that because of those conditions that I have been describing and the changing demographic of the country – - I think America’s Liberal – Progressive – Democrat future is pretty well assured for a long long time yet to come.
The trolls will disagree of course – - but I do not think America is dumb enough to be taken in by their nonsense on a permanent basis – - at least I hope that is the case.
It seems to me to have been the case so far – - much to the credit of the American People – - and I am speaking of ALL The American People here – - “All!”
