Ever notice how many radical right wingers accuse Liberals, Democrats and Progressives of being infatuated with “Abortions” but somehow never manage to mention that Conservatives seek and obtain them too? I wonder why the oversight? Maybe it is true that Conservatives never have abortions – - – yeah, right! – - – READ HERE.
After I read that referenced article I started to wonder about how many of that 73% with some kind of religious affiliation might have been Conservative – - – if any! Yeah, right!
I couldn’t resist adding that “Abortion” thing because after reading on some other websites I wanted to kind of even out the playing field a little.
The real “Rant” I wanted to address is more about the similarities and differences in people and how they affect our view of the world and of one another and what the significance of all of it might be in a political, religious and/or practical sense.
As I continue my little ill-advised foray into the topsy-turvy world of the often too-funny political radical right it never ceases to amaze me just how negative some imaginations can become as they struggle with their paranoid little fantasies which they often try to dress up in some illusion of reason and rhyme and then do their best to bark it out where some passerby might hear – - might stop – - might pay attention.
The problem with this kind of comparison – - as I see it – - is that there may also be some of on the Lib side of the fence who may also indulge in a form of non-productive negativity and some fantasies of our own – - – this is something I like to file under “Human Nature.”
As much as I hate to admit it – - I often catch myself doing these kinds of things myself and I am not particularly proud of myself when I do catch it.
There is a Scripture which says something about making sure we remove the impediment from our own eyes before we attempt to remove the impediment in somebody else’s eyes.
So we go on in our own imperfect little ways, I guess – - – making mistakes – - falling down and getting back up again – - – and life goes on.
One thing is readily apparent to me – - – some righties appear to me to be so eaten up with what looks to me like hatred I often wonder how some of them manage to avoid having serious medical problems brought about by the tremendous internal pressures many of them must live with each and every day of their lives.
Dare I even mention my suspicion that the Righties are not alone in this and that a lot of us on the other side – - much to our shame – - may sometimes indulge ourselves in the same useless sentiments?
I sometimes wonder if all the political bickering and arguing and haranguing that goes on every day is actually worthwhile in the long run?
Isn’t all politics essentially about one side of an ideology or the other getting the “Power” or “The Upper Hand” or “The Leadership Role?”
We have had Republican administrations in our History and we have had Democrat administrations and both have usually been quick to point out the shortcomings of the other – - and both have screamed and yelled at each other – - and there has been a lot of name calling and negative campaign advertising – - a lot of frustration on both sides – - a lot of give and take – - and a lot of money spent – - but you know what?
America goes on!
Sure things are changing.
Right now America just happens to have a few politically inclined folks who have different and sometimes radical ideas about how things should be. Some of these are more aggressive than others and some make more sense to me than others – - – which I am sure is par for the course.
Radicalism has come and gone in America before and I am sure it will come and go again and in the end common sense will prevail.
I have always trusted the Will of the Majority of The American People.
We have had the noise makers and the rattlers and the foundation shakers before – - we have had the anarchists – - the revolutionists – - the haters – - we have had them all before and I am sure we will have them again sometime down the road. None of this is new. Like The Bible says, “There is nothing new under the Sun.”
Some of the really nasty-tempered radical Righties seem to literally hate it when I use Scriptures. I sometimes think many of them believe God wrote The Bible exclusively so they could twist and pervert it – - – but I think they got that all wrong! I think God loves us Libs too.
everybody who lives on Earth kind of shares the same table when you think about it.
God has spread this big table – - filled with an abundance of things for all of us to partake of and to experience – - and no matter who we are or where we come from or what our religious or political differences may be – - we all eat from that same feast spread before us by something or someone bigger than any of us.
I sometimes think if it is true that God crowns us with loving kindnesses and mercies – - – - and I have heard a lot of wise people saying something of this nature – - – I think if that is Gospel Truth then perhaps we owe it to our fellow human beings to show a little loving kindness and mercy of our own – - especially toward those with whom we may not always agree either religiously or politically.
So while some of us may hate the politics of others I think we really need to strive to find some kind of love in our hearts for the people themselves.
You know we can all scream and yell and throw barbs and call names as much as we care to but when I stop to think about it – - God blesses us all with such an abundance of wonderful things – - a lot of it without our having ever asked – - I sometimes wonder how we can get to the point where we do not focus on our blessings as much as we focus on cursing those with whom we do not agree on carnal, mundane, earthly – - transient things – - temporary things!
The question begs to be answered, “How can some people carry around such a heavy burden of hatred for others and still find any ability at all to savor the Love and Grace that God has showered so abundantly on them?”
Some of the lives being lived in that kind of darkness must be miserable indeed.
Can we disagree with our political rivals?
Yes – - we can disagree as strongly as we wish.
Can we afford to hate our political rivals?
I don’t think so.
You see – - the time is coming to each one of us – - individually – - when the things of this world will no longer matter – - a time when each of us will face eternity – - and none of us will go into that state of being in a group of our like-minded humans. When that day comes it will be just us – - alone – - alone with our memories – - our record – - – our regrets – - our God – - just Him and us – - no one else.
Once that threshold has been crossed – - what will all the bickering and fighting and struggle have been for? What will it have accomplished?
I think we should love our country and our countrymen!
I think we should love all our fellow Americans – - white, black, yellow, Red and every shade in between – - straight – - gay – - rich – - poor – - sick – - well – - right wing – - left-wing – - no wing!
I think we should honor the President regardless of who he or she might be!
I think we should salute the Stars and Stripes with tears of pride filling our eyes.
I think we should do the best we can with what we have been given and do what we can to help one another because life is tough sometimes.
I think we should pray for those who cannot love others – - the haters! I think we should come to try to show love even to these.
A great man once said, “Until you can come to the point where you love your worst enemy – - you have never known a thing about being a Christian.”
