I was surfing the web, looking at right wing blogs – - and I found one on which somebody had claimed that the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) had recently contacted them and asked them if they still owned a specific kind of weapon and the ammunition that goes with it.
I thought to myself, “Yeah, some of the righties are already starting to suggest that the Gubmint (government) is already beginning their tyrannical stuff now that the president has announced 23 brand new and perfectly legal executive orders in connection with efforts to curb gun violence in the United States.”
I was not surprised to find this allusion to some incident where a government law enforcement agency might be investigating who owns what in the way of weaponry and I have no way in Peck’s Hell of knowing whether the story is true or whether it is just the over-active imagination of some paranoid consciousness – - but I would hazard to guess that the FBI has not yet contacted any private citizen out of the blue just to harass them about what weapons they might own.
I know that the FBI is interested in looking at whatever they have reason to believe may pose a threat to The United States, but I am confident they are not suddenly going around asking each of our 250 million-gun owning citizens about their weapons.
For one thing, the logistics of such a concerted effort would be far too great for any single agency to handle – - – I doubt there are enough agents and support personnel anywhere near handling such a proposition and even if there were, I am not paranoid enough to believe that the government would be embarked on something as sinister as this article I read seems to want to make out.
I do not know the details and I certainly am not an expert in law enforcement, but I would say (without really knowing) that if some government law enforcement agency has contacted a private citizen about the kinds of weapons they own it would be only because some local police force has requested them to get involved or something of that nature because like I said, I do not believe government law enforcement agencies initiate individual investigations on their own recognizance as it were.
The one thing I can be certain of (and it is still my personal opinion . . . is that the right wing fringe propaganda machine will probably ramp up the rhetoric now that there is a real possibility that most Americans are awakening to the dangers posed by run-away guns in this country and we are likely to hear every kind and variety of trumped-up fabricated hate-mongering mythology as the battle for sanity about the gun issue heats up.
After all, folks, isn’t that the way some of them play?
I believe there is more attention being paid by Americans to the gun thing now than there ever has in the past and I think some of the gun interests and their big money friends and associates are starting to squirm in their seats for the first time in a long time.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
