Why do so many Conservatives seem to long for a smaller government and for ways to keep government out of the lives of individual citizens while at the same time demanding government be used as the most powerful available mechanism for advancing their agendas?
Don’t they understand that The People and their government are joined together in an unbreakable bond by the circumstances of History and by a couple of centuries of shared sacrifice?
What is good for The People is good for their government and what is good for The Government is good for the People it serves. That is the way it is in America and that is how it has been for a very long time now.
Do Conservatives actually believe that something as big and complex as The United States can be operated and maintained with “Mom and Pop” governance?
Isn’t that kind of like saying that two brothers who own an automotive body shop in mid-town small city, USA can build and produce thousands of automobiles for a car-hungry market with nothing but their personal tools and a paint sprayer?
Does anybody besides me find the Conservative idea about smaller government and the demands they want to place on it just a little bit nutty? Deranged perhaps? (O.K., how about “Over-Ambitious?”)
In my view, government is nothing more than the authorized body who has been elected by the will of the People to do the things that the People want done. That should be simple enough to understand.
But there are Conservatives out there who feel impelled to remind me that politicians are employees of the “State.”
I get the idea sometimes that there are a lot of Conservatives who have the notion that elected officials are working for their own interests instead of the good of “The People.”
I have to remind these victims of Conservatism’s paranoia syndrome that these “Elected Officials” were chosen in elections by the Electorate and if the Electorate hadn’t trusted their elected officials, the elected officials would never have been elected in the first place.
It is also a good time to remind some Conservatives that if “The People” become disappointed with their choices, they still have the power to change things through either recall actions or elections—as many in the State of Wisconsin have learned for example.
It seems to me that it is Conservatism who is always accusing us Liberals, Democrats and Progressives of being “Statists” and then they, themselves put such enormous value on their idea of the “State.”
I have said it before and I will say it again because it is what I believe—Republicans and other Conservatives will always gripe and complain about “Big Government” only up to the point that they can find a way to use the powers of “Big Government” to advance their ambitions.
At this point, “Big Government” actually looks very good to them and they try to make full use of it’s potential. What absolute hypocrisy! Remember that these are my personal opinions based on many years of observation.
Recently, as the 2012 elections draw near, I have noticed a new rhetoric on the horizon of Radical American Conservatism.
I have noticed lately that Conservatism has started to blow the horn of “Socialism” when they are describing the American Government.
In the old days (1950s) the chosen word was “Communism”. As I recall, anyone or anything the Conservative Crowd did not like or which they had strong disagreement with was labeled “Communist.” That was then. Now the buzz word seems to have become “Socialist.”
Many of them seem absolutely obsessed with the idea that President Obama and the administration that surrounds and supports him have started down a path to some kind of terrible “Socialistic” path that they feel will ultimately destroy the nation.
I can still hear the words of that elder statesman of The Republican party in front of those television cameras boasting that the main priority item of “Gawd’s Own Party” would be to insure that Obama is a one-term President.
I am not surprised that these accusations of “Socialism” against our President and the Democrats would arise again because these are the same tired old arguments that the very same political mindset raised against President Franklin Roosevelt at the time he introduced The New Deal and Social Security– the very same arguments!
They never stop trying, do they?
Like the old Bolshevik tactic, they just keep on boring from within while propagandizing without with the hope of eventually establishing their corrosive ideology as the Law of the Land– on a permanent basis in my opinion.
As I see it, the new attack of Conservatism on the People, their country and their Flag involves the invocation of an appeal to religion coupled with a hyper Patriotism and a never-ending barrage of BS from their myth machine that tries to paint the government as some kind of nefarious aggressor whose only goal is to take away all Freedoms and enslave the population in some dark realm of oppression.
I am of the firm conviction, belief and opinion that the very things Conservatism is accusing Liberals, Democrats and Progressives of trying to do are the exact things that they, themselves are working to get done.
In my mind, it is just another example of demonizing a victim so that a perpetrator can get away with murder. Of course I am using an allegory here and not actually suggesting the act of killing someone.
The good thing as I see it is this: Americans are not stupid and are not easily fooled as some on the pushcart of Conservatism would like to believe they are.
With this most recent round of politicking on the part of candied-dates from Conservatism, there has been enough craziness presented to the American People–some of it ludicrous to the extreme (Like putting school kids to work as janitors) that the ridiculousness of it all is very transparent and I don’t think responsible Americans– the ones who have intelligence and are actually able to use critical thinking– will ever fall for any of it.
No one is out there on those streets with tanks and guns waiting for Mr. and Mrs. Main Street to make a mistake.
The one exception to the above statement might be found in those so-called “Stand Your Ground” gun laws being pushed by powerful weapons lobbies and Big Gun interests.
If one looks at recent events in Florida and elsewhere, then one might reasonably conclude that “Someone might be waiting out there somewhere with some kind of firepower…waiting for some innocent person to make a wrong move.”
But as far as The Fed being on the warpath against it’s citizens… I think that is just one of the crazier little pipe dreams of a bunch of loony-tunes of Radical Conservatism and I think the whole argument is nothing but a tool to try and scare people for the sake of winning elections.

I hear a lot of griping and complaining coming from some Right Wingers about how their “Freedoms” are being denied to them and how this trend is “Killing” America.
The funny thing is that when I confront some of them and try to get them to explain which of their freedoms they feel are being taken away, they shut up tighter than clams– because, in my opinion, they can’t really pinpoint any of their freedoms that have been taken away by “The Government.”
They love to complain that their freedom of religion has been taken from them.
I have Ultra-Conservative relatives who spout this stuff religiously. (Pun intended.) Sometimes it seems to me like these relatives only religion might be some kind of paranoid delusion about the government being “Out To Get Them.”
They seem definitely sure that Religious Freedom in this country is either dead or dying– being killed by what they perceive (Wrongly, I might add) by some kind of “Socialist” conspiracy.
That is a funny thing too because every time I walk down a street, I pass at least two or three fully functional and currently operational churches of every kind and description.
It seems even funnier when I realize that these same complaining relatives never seem to miss a worship service and no one ever appears at the door, bayonet in hand, to prevent their entrance into their chosen place of devotion.
So I don’t know where that nut case argument is coming from.
I heard one person from the Right complaining that it is impossible to utter even a word about Christianity, Religion or Family and Moral Values in America today.
I don’t know where that person has been hiding (Maybe a head up where the Sun doesn’t shine?) because I hear an awfully lot of talk on television, in movies, newspapers and magazines about both Religion and Values– and “Christianity.”
In fact, I hear enough about “Christianity, Religion, Values and Family and Morals” that I want to throw up sometimes. It seems to be everywhere!
It certainly does seem to be trying to make it’s way into the Laws of our Nation. I get the idea sometime that someone somewhere has the idea that American should become a nation where Christianity dictates the law. That would be different, wouldn’t it?
It would be interesting to me to see just whose religious “Take” would end up dominating the Legal System.
The preponderance of complaints about loss of Religious Freedom in America seems to me to be coming from Far Right Wing broadcast and print media– the “Amazing Mental Myth-Making Machine” with which most of us are all too familiar.
Someone seems to have twisted some of these Right Winger’s nod wads a little because they certainly don’t always make sense when they utter these ridiculous statements about our loss of Freedoms in America.
As for me— I feel as free as a bird and happy as anyone could ever hope to feel that I am privileged to live in a wonderful country that we all call “America, Land of The Free.”
I have walked the streets of this great nation for more than 72 years now and no one has ever jumped out of the shadows and carted me off to some dark dungeon somewhere and I doubt if it will ever happen!
It could be that some of these poor deluded complaining souls are off their meds or something. I don’t know why they feel so threatened. It is almost certain to be some kind of mental miasma but that is for the professionals to decide.
I was out in the yard yesterday, digging a hole to plant my new rose bush when my neighbor, a staunch right wing Conservative, leaned over the fence to yammer at me.
“Hey, you old Liberal Commie!” she greeted me with her usual “Christian” courtesy…”Aren’t you afraid to be out in this yard alone by yourself? Don’t you know there are at least a dozen Conservatives with guns running around the neighborhood?”
She laughed, apparently pleased with her rather juvenile attempt to be funny.
I knew that this lady was an avid supporter of Second Amendment rights. She proved that much the Halloween night when she fired rock salt through her bedroom window at some teen aged boys who had thrown loose corn against her window in a traditional “Tick Tacking” gesture.
Luckily all she did that night was break her window to smithereens and get a visit from the local sheriff who dropped by to see “What all the commotion was about.”
None of the kids were hurt. They were just frightened a little.
I told her, “I am all for people being able to purchase, own and carry their firearms… I have no problems with that.”
Continuing, I said, “I am concerned about the fact that some dangerous nut case who thinks he or she is some kind of “Protector Of The Innocent Victims Of Crime” might get hold of a weapon and a permit and go on a shooting spree against imagined “Criminals” at a shopping mall or something.”
Not yet satisfied and still itching for a verbal fight, my neighbor shifted her more-than-hefty mass on it’s axis and glared at me saying, “I suppose your kind really objects to us Bible-Spouting, far-right extremists having our say about things, don’t you? I never see you going to church anywhere. Are you some kind of atheist or something?”
I swallowed hard and replied as gently as I knew how, “I am a Christian too, believe it or not! I just don’t go to church because there aren’t any churches nearby that have not become a virtual extension of some right wing political party. They seem to have all gotten into politics and they seem to be trying to remake Jesus into a politician as well.”
I added, “I really am glad that you have the freedom to attend the church of your choice,— what I object to is when you and your far right wing cohorts go to Washington or to the State Legislature and try to get your cockamamie religious views passed into laws that infringe on my rights.”
I finished by saying, “I want you to have all the Freedom of Religion you can handle, but what I don’t want is for you and your right wing compatriots to be able to use the Law of The Land to shove your beliefs down my throat too.”
I let my neighbor understand that I am fully in favor of “Freedom OF Religion” in America as long as it also includes “Freedom FROM Religion for people like myself.”
I guess that was enough friendly, casual conversation for my neighbor because she wheeled on her axis and slowly drifted back into her own little 3,000+ square foot ranch house and slammed the door behind her in the most “Christian” manner possible.
Her raggedy little “Pretend” dog stayed behind yapping at me in that nerve-wracking, high pitched little squeak that is supposed to pass for a “Bark.”
I thought to myself, as I went back to the rose bush, “I wish that old bat would get herself a “Real” dog.

I do not own a gun because I have never felt the need to own a gun. But, maybe the world is getting dangerous enough now that I should consider getting one.
There are a lot of reasons in my mind as to why I might be better off to consider arming myself. Of course, you must realize that I am only speaking my own personal opinions here, right?
I am older now and I have heard that older people tend to be easier targets of crime.
I might meet a vicious miniature poodle in a shopping mall and have to defend myself against a potentially fatal bite on the ankle.
I might find a wild boa constrictor coiled up on the back seat of my automobile.
A passing truck may discharge a few dozen hungry and angry wild attack hogs on the way from farm to slaughter house and I might be in their path.
I might be outside on a nice summer day, minding my own business when I am suddenly and ferociously attacked by a river duck or a wild goose.
In states that have so-called “Stand Your Ground” laws, I would probably be justified in using lethal force in such a situation as that, don’t you think?
How about if I were to confront some deranged older woman who threatens to hit me with her potentially lethal purse or something? What would I do then? Would I be better off with a loaded AK-47 than not?
What if I turn a corner somewhere and meet a snarling older gentlemen who is foaming at the mouth and rushing headlong toward me with his teeth bared threateningly? Wouldn’t a fully-loaded Nine Millimeter and a license to carry come in handy at that point in time?
How about if I am casually driving around a neighborhood in my car and I spot some suspicious person who may have the potential to rush out and stop my vehicle with bare hands, force my locked doors open and attack me with some awful weapon like a bag of candy or a bottle of iced tea?
Wouldn’t I be justified in having and using a loaded gun at that point? I mean, folks– can you imagine the damage that plastic iced tea bottle is capable of doing to a human being in the wrong hands?
I heard a tale of gun-ownership from a friend who is a bank teller lately and I think I ought to share it now.
It kind of shows me some of the nutty reasons that owning a gun isn’t always a help in times when a gun might be needed.
It seems that this friend knows someone whose family was held hostage at gunpoint while the man of the house was forced to open a safe deposit box and hand over some valuables to a group of crooks who had just burst into their home, guns waving.
The man of the house owned several guns and probably felt very safe and secure until the incursion took place and he had absolutely no chance of getting to his stash of weapons. The guns were useless to him at that point.
On second thought, maybe I won’t run out and exercise my Second Amendment rights after all. I might just get myself shot trying to be something I am not intended to be, gun in hand.
I think I will let the more “Macho” guys do all that stuff and hope that none of them get drunk enough to decide to come after me– because I am old and an easy target, right?
Maybe I will leave gun ownership to the Militias like the Founding Fathers intended in the first place. I do not see the need to acquire an arsenal and I am not planning to build a personal armory anytime soon.
I do not see the government as a threat and my reflexes aren’t probably fast enough to deal with a rabid crook with a Sherman Tank or an F-15 aircraft with it’s cannons blazing.
I hope my readers will give the following link some attention because I find the story under it to be heart wrenching and I think it needs to be read by everyone who has a chance to read it.

It is so very sad to think that there are a few poor, deluded cynical people out there who, for one reason or another, are under the mistaken impression that the American Government is some dark and sinister conglomeration of “Criminals” who are just waiting to do something awful to them and their loved ones.
There are some individuals who seem to pass many hours of their days doing little else but collecting conspiracy stories and forwarding them via e-mail to a list of recipients they have selected to hear this garbage. Some of these seem relentless in their desire to discredit everything good about America. I have often wondered what drives this behavior.
There are others out there who are so bitter that their very inward parts must be almost corroded away with the most vile hatred of everything and everybody that can be imagined and they spend a lot of time trying to leave “Attack” comments on this blog calling whoever will listen to them every nasty thing they can think of to call someone and then wondering publicly why their nasty little Troll comments get deleted.
There is no doubt that America has accumulated a large number of codes, regulations, policies and laws over the years because an entity the size and complexity of The United States requires a complex set of rules by which its Citizens are required to abide. The very diversity of our nature would dictate a complex legal system.
Imagine what Anarchy would be like. Imagine what America would be if every single individual were totally free to do absolutely anything that might strike their fancy?
I have lived as an American ever since birth some 74 years ago and I know that I may be unwittingly in violation of some little-known law or something that is archaic, no longer enforced but, for one reason or another, still on the books. Yes, there is the possibility that all of us are in violation of something or other at one time or another– that is true.
But so far, I am not in the clink over these infractions that I know nothing about and neither are most people with which I am acquainted.
Yet, the paranoiacs persist in sweating about these invisible threats and they simply cannot seem to resist letting everybody else know the “Imminent Danger” that all of us are in– every minute of every day– from all of what they term as “Those Criminals” who are authorized to enforce all these horrid dangerous laws that are rarely if ever enforced much less even remembered.
To some of these folks I have a word of advice:
It is probably not good to mix psycho-active medications with alcohol. But that is strictly my opinion and the advice of a qualified and properly licensed health care giver needs to be obtained before paying any attention at all to my personal opinion.
Those “Criminals” who have the authority to enforce these threatening regulations and laws that the paranoids like to harp about have been duly elected in legitimate elections where the majority of voters have placed their trust in their capabilities.
They are duly elected Representatives who are licensed by the Public Will through a Democratic Process to make decisions about governing us. In my opinion There is nothing “Criminal” about them until and unless they might perform some such act and get caught at it.
If one of our legally-elected Representatives would do or say something that offends the Public, then the mechanism is in place for the situation to be remedied. The mechanism to which I refer is called “The Elective Process.” It has been around a long long time and it has done a really swell job so far.
Like the great song writer, Lee Greenwood has said:
“And I’m Proud to be an American, Where at least I know I’m free…
“Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God Bless The U.S.A!”

America is a diverse nation and I think that is a good thing.
There are those who really love their country and who are happy and true Patriots and there are some who live in imagined fears and paranoia that something or someone is always “Out To Get Them” and to take their freedoms away from them.
Yes, there is every shade, degree, flavor and level of human perspective in The great fabric of Social America.
That is why this country has been referred to as a “Melting Pot” for all these years. It is our diversity that makes us unique and it is our diversity that makes us great. It is our Constitution and our Bill of Rights that makes this kind of diversity possible in the first place and it is absolutely a wonderful thing as far as I am concerned.
I was reading this article awhile back by someone who remembers their experiences in school as a kid and who was sharing experiences.
The writer was conveying a sense that he or she felt as if he or she had been subjected, as a kid, to some kind of “Indoctrination” in the school experience.
I guess every school kid comes to the point, sooner or later, whether he or she questions the difference between “Indoctrination” and “Education.”
I have entertained such questions myself from time to time. I think this is a normal part of the maturation process.
Questioning is a good thing.
In a truly oppressive country, questioning is a dangerous “No No” and I am glad that no one goes to endless incarceration for the crime of questioning things in America.
When I was in school, as a very young student– the lower grades– I remember saying The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag like a lot of other kids did. As I remember, this was a custom not only in the Public, Tax-Supported Schools, but in the parochials as well where I lived.
We too sang The National Anthem as a group and we went one step further as well.
We recited The Lord’s Prayer!
If that isn’t enough to curl the toenails of the conspiracy nuts, we also heard our Teacher read stories from The Bible to us during the period just immediately following the lunch break.
That was the way it was in our school and no one ever questioned it and I certainly had no idea or feeling like I was being indoctrinated into something evil.
In fact, I enjoyed doing all these things and I am here to tell you that I am glad that we did all those things because I have loved being an American.
I have never felt like I have ever subordinated myself to the Government and there are times when I have been darned glad that we have the kind of government that we do have. I think Americans are blessed to have a government that is big enough both to care and to help and to protect.
I am glad that we live in a country where we can enjoy Freedom From Religion just as much as we can enjoy Freedom OF Religion as we desire.
Even though we all said prayers in school, no one ever cornered us in a dark room and sat us in a chair with bright lights in our face for hours telling us how we would go to Hell and burn forever if we didn’t become “Christians.”
I have heard of certain forms of government where it is entirely possible for completely innocent people to be taken into dark rooms and have the blinding lights turned on them and spend many captive hours listening to “Interrogators” telling them why it is so “Glorious” to be a part of The Fatherland.
We do not live in that kind of country even though there seem to be plenty of myth-informed idiots out there with some kind of agenda to try and convince us that we do.
I don’t care what some who seem to be obvious agents of Right Wing Extremest so-called “Christian” Conservatism try to tell me about how evil America has become and how corrupt our government is.
I know from personal experience that no one has ever, in any way, shape or form ever tried to force me to believe that the state is paramount in importance above all other considerations and that I should be happy to become some glazed-eyed automaton in blind subservience to my “Leaders.”
I have always breathed the clear, fresh, pure air of Freedom as an American and I will bet a donut to a dollar that I am not alone in this.
In fact, I served with several hundred thousand others of like mind when I wore the uniform of my country for seven years and three months in both the U.S. Army National Guard and The Regular United States Air Force.
I am so glad to be an American.
If the detractors of this great nation don’t like it here, let them take their ridiculous conspiracy theories and move somewhere else where they will be happier.

Republicans and Conservatives seem to love to attack Liberals, Democrats and Progressives every chance they get and for any excuse they find convenient. This has been going on for as long as I can remember and I am 73-years-old.
Of course it has been getting worse– I must admit– in the last ten or so years. I have no memories of being called Communist, Nazi or Filthy Hippie much earlier than about a year ago. This “Red State” and “Blue State” division that has come to America because of some fantasy on the part of Radical Conservatism is very unsettling, totally inexcusable and absolutely destructive of Liberty and Freedom as we have known it since the time of The Founders.
But it is here and I guess we are stuck with it until America finally wises up and the obstructionists burn themselves out in the eyes of the American Public– which they most definitely will eventually do because, as I have said on numerous occasions, Americans are not dumb and the propaganda masters from the Far Right Fringes of Conservatism will not be able to perpetuate their deceptions forever.
Is this divided nation that seems to be in some kind of a philosophical and political war with itself the kind of nation I want for myself and my generations? Duuhhhh!
I want a nation where the Constitution and The Bill of Rights remain intact– free from revision by the Far Right. I do not want a Theocratic Republic where The Constitution and The Bill of Rights has been replaced by some religious claptrap by fanatics.
I want an America where there is a government big enough and willing enough to keep regulations in place that protect the Environment so that my grand children will be able to breathe the air without the aid of gas masks and where they will be able to drink the water without fearing imminent death from industrial pollutants.
Having seen evidence of the awful devastation that can be caused by the use of nuclear weapons, I want a nation where the use of these horrible things will always be forbidden.
I want to live in an America where I know that when workers go to work and put in long, hard hours, they can expect to receive wages that will allow them to raise a family in some degree of comfort, and where they will have access to health care if they are injured on the job, and where they can be assured of some kind of secure retirement in return for their long years of loyalty to some employer.
When these same loyal workers finally retire, I want them to have their Social Security and their Medicare intact, effective, accessible and untouched by the ramifications of any kind of privatization scheme that will only put greater financial burdens on them so that some more millionaires can get a little richer.
I want a nation in which the Public Education System is available and where kids can learn to live in the real world without having someone else’s religious indoctrination shoved down their throats.
I want to live in an America where some Far Right Fringe fear monger cannot use the Law to find ways to spy on everything that I do or say in Public, on the telephone or on the Internet.
I want to live in an America where the Laws that get passed reflect the will of the vast majority of the Citizens who live here and are not simply reflective of the twisted morality of a relatively small faction of religious nut cases with some kind of social ax to grind.
Liberal ideas were used by Liberal Founding Fathers to breathe the breath of life into this nation in the 1700s.
Liberal actions saved this nation from the Great Depression that started in the 1920s and ended sometime around the 1940s and Liberal actions are saving this nation from the great recession that started sometime around the previous Right Wing administration.
Yes, Obama’s policies are working and many of the Right Wing Extremists are going absolutely bonkers over it.
I have outlined the kind of country that I want to live in and that I want my kids and grand kids to live in.
The only way this kind of country is going to have a chance is if I continue to vote Democrat, Liberal and Progressive.
This is exactly what I intend to do.

Bought with the blood of patriots, America is the Land of Hope for Freedom and Prosperity for a complex world of diversity and challenge.
Pride marks the heart of it’s citizens and when the citizens are properly framed, they are the essence of Human Compassion, sharing, caring and giving in the truest traditions of all that is good and proper about Human Nature.
But, there is still potential for suffering and for a certain form of treachery where one faction would overcome the other and establish perpetual rule even on these hallowed shores.
Yet, the shining stars on the glorious field of blue, ever waves in the midst of the red stripes that denote the ultimate sacrifice and strikes Pride in the hearts of all Americans. The Flag! The Stars and Stripes– Old Glory! Long may she wave!
Capitalists dream from the heights of America’s ivory towers that stretch seemingly into the clouds. They are surrounded by the noise, the action and the beauty of her gleaming cities where millions toil, like so many adventurous ants in a giant colony of cooperative hope and Democratic Idealism.
Immigrants come together under the shadow of Liberty and cry joyful tears of admiration at the alabaster skies, the waving fields of golden grain as welcoming hands reach out from the very Earth beneath their feet to welcome them, to nurture them and to become their rightful home.
A family made up from all peoples from around the Globe, America shines like hope in a sea of uncertain darkness for the huddled masses.
Sometimes the moral high ground is celebrated on these fields of promise and sometimes the moral high ground is temporarily submerged in the events of passing times.
Liberalism provides a canvass upon which can be painted colorful compositions of heart, soul and love for those who love Liberty and who are inclined to help their neighbors in times of abundance and of great need.
Conservatism provides a balance by serving the needs of those who have need of nothing by reason of their wealth and thus becomes somewhat like darkness is to the night or East is to West or Up is to Down…a balance…the balance between Light and dark; Good and Evil.
Yet, even these surmisings are not always sure as they are the opinions of one observer and may be entirely different in the eyes of another.
Political activism or social interaction. It is all available and all allowed in the scope of American Freedoms.
Yet, there is no such thing as a perfect world and even the precious Freedoms of this great nation are never absolutely assured. Even now, many of those Freedoms are under attack from within and without. But isn’t that the stuff that the evolution of nations is made of?
One day the alabaster temple shines, golden in the mid-day sun. Then, in the flash of an instant, the temple is ruined and weeds grow where polished tiles once formed shining waxed floors and the hollow laughter of spirits ring against decaying walls that once watched over the revellings of royalty.
But for now, the horror has not descended; only a threat from time to time. But the tenacious Spirit of Good continues to preserve the nation. There must be Divine guidance. The intervention of The Divine has to be the reason for the persistence of this ideal. No other explanation is plausible. God must continue to shed His Grace on America, else She would not still be!
Ascend to the highest heights or descend to the lowest depths because the promise of America is that all people can achieve their most cherished ambitions with the proper preparation and the proper amount of toil and determination.
Here, one can hold a star from the heavens against the hopeful breast if one is so inclined. This is a hardy People and a place of promise.
Blessing and Blasphemy, riches and poverty– dreams achieved and dreams broken. Yet still the great engine of Democracy grinds on and the white horses of Freedom are ridden by the spirits of the Patriots who have given their all and those who are still laboring in the fields of vision for the future.
This, then, is my ancestral home– America, The Beautiful or America, The Ugly– but glorious and wonderful and precious in any of Her many personnas.
Long Live Liberty in this hallowed place!
This, therefore, is the musing of one Citizen of a great nation and is the opinion of the same. John is the citizen’s name.
Opinion by John Liming
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mommies and Daddies and Children of all ages…may I present for your enlightenment, edification and education, The First Amendment To The Constitution Of The United States Of America:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; OR OF THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
This is part of what an awfully lot of good American military people fought and died for for one helluva lot of years in a lot of armed conflicts all over the world.
This is also something that a lot of nervous greed mongers in high places would like to dispense with when it comes to dealing with legitimate protest movements from American Citizens–Like The Occupy Wall Street Movement for example…
Let’s see a little of how this is developing around these United States of America these days— this land of Freedom and human rights! This Land of Democracy:
1. In an action that resulted in seven arrests, Occupy Wall Street protesters in Minneapolis Thursday, took their almost two-week-long protest to U.S. Bank, a frequent target of protesters’ criticism that corporations and banks dominate the political system.
2. Their arrests occurred after about 100 protesters took control of 2nd Avenue South and 6th Street South in downtown Minneapolis after rallying at the U.S. Bank Building for more than an hour.
From Twitter: “What kinda cop harasses a man with his 13-year-old daughter, while they engage in peaceful protest? #Occupy Dallas.”
John Liming says: “Why a well-trained, heavily-equipped riot cop with a “Pro-Active” policing attitude, that’s what kind of cop harasses a man with his 13-year-old daughter while they engage in peaceful protest, I should imagine.
3. United States Marine Corps Sergeant Shamar Thomas in a spectacular moment defended the protesters of Occupy Wall Street while staring into the faces of thirty NYPD officers and countless other Marines have organized in an amazing show of solidarity.
4. Sgt. Thomas’ gallant actions in standing up for American citizens brutalized by the police were shown in a video which has gone viral with almost 2 million views. Marines have joined forces with #Occupy Marines in solidarity with the movement not just in New York but nationwide.
John Liming says: The Marines who are showing solidarity to the protesters should be wary lest they put their own safety in danger. These brave heroes who have given so much to defend American Freedom should understand that not everyone in America understands the concept of Freedom–especially some of the greedy Conservatives who see it as a threat to their billionaire fortunes.
John Liming asks: “Does anyone want to get out the Bible and The Flag and wave them around a little bit while the Occupy Protesters are being intimidated and harassed and threatened—and, in some cases, maced and beaten for exercising their First Amendment Rights?

Here is an interesting aside for anyone who might be interested:
The Occupy Wall Street Movement is, of course, not the first occasion when Americans demonstrated in the streets because of perceived grievances. Here is another familiar occasion that happened a few years back in case anyone doesn’t remember.
What is one to make of all this?
STATES COULD TAKE TOTAL CONTROL OF WHOLE COMMUNITIES!
“My Country, tis of thee…
“Sweet Land of Liberty…”
Governors of certain states in The United States of America may soon have the very real power to seize control of local municipal governments if certain members of the Extreme Right Wing get their way with the Law.
Imagine a situation in which a governor of a state could stick a financial manager of his own choosing into a local community and that manager would have total authority to cancel union contracts, to over ride any decisions by duly elected local government officials and/or school board members and to take total control.
It is not a fantasy and it is not a dream, folks. This kind of dictatorial power is, even as I write, is reported to be being pushed in both Wisconsin and Michigan where thousands of concerned citizens have already gathered in protest, apparently with little effect so far according to some news reports.
If this kind of thing becomes Law, it will give some governors that power to do all of the above and to even go so far as to actually dissolve or consolidate cities if they choose to do so according to news reports I have read.

I am including this as a public service because reading this kind of stuff scares me and I am a grown man!
If this stuff is going on here in America, I am praying that my Liberal and Progressive friends are paying attention and that when it comes election time again, some of these people and these things can be recalled, repealed and voted out.
This is outrageous as far as I am concerned.
Where do you stand?
