Intelligence is not always a prerequisite!
In America everyone has a say in how things will go!
That’s what makes America unique in all the world!
Opinion by John
There was a time in America – - – way back toward the very founding of the nation – - – when only property owners and land holders were permitted to vote in American elections and I am assuming that these are the times that some of our more vocal self-branded right-leaning “Patriots” would dearly love to take us all back to.
“Imagine how much more relevant and effective our elections could be if only those who are generally known to have the intelligence and the spirit to make themselves rich had the franchise of the vote! ” I have actually heard some rather hefty – - – person – - – say that somewhere at one time or the other.
There was a time and some places in America too when some folks were actually required to take written and oral tests to prove to election officials they were smart enough to understand issues – - – and often a fee was charged in connection with taking these kinds of tests – - – and I think these are the days a few of the Righties would like to take us all back to again.
I have heard a statement from some Rightie somewhere that said essentially, “Not every dumb sonova-breach should be allowed to vote because that is how we get Liberals elected to office” – - – or some other such shee-yat as that. I remember answering this idiotic piece of mundane banality with something on the order of, “Yes and it is by allowing every dumb sonova-breach to vote that we have gotten the few right wing administrations that have done all this damage to the nation – - – and the last one was the worst as far as I am concerned.”
Of course in that exchange, I guess we were both exercising our right of free speech and were expressing our personal opinions – - – that might be an academic assumption for those out there with the panache to embrace academia.
A lot of Righties will spend hours trying to explain to me how valuable “Truth Telling” is as a requirement of being an elected politician and how that all us “Liberals” are always lying through our teeth about most everything, etc., etc., etc., – - – until my face turns green from listening to them and I feel like I am going to vomit.
As I have observed – - – and as I have concluded – - – and as a lot of the people I have known will probably tend to agree – - – nobody on the face of the earth can lie with the skill of some Right Wing Radicals – - – and when they aren’t telling outright lies, I think they are often twisting facts – - and when they aren’t twisting facts, they are absorbing twisted facts from their favorite propaganda pundits like a really porous sponge absorbs ammoni-hydroxenated H20.
I have come to the conclusion that when some Righties talk about “The Electorate” they are talking about people with Red Statist tendencies and are totally throwing everyone else who lives in America out of their political equations and I think many of them believe that only what is best for the Red States is good for The - – - whole of The U.S.A. – - – the whole enchilada, if you will!
Sometimes when I remember that Red States get the most Federal dollars and the most assistance in all things “Gubmint” and that they return proportionately fewer dollars to the Treasury in relation to what they get from Taxpayers – - – and I get a glimpse of what I have always considered their “Free Ride” on taxpayer backs, I am sometimes tempted to almost agree with the contention that “What is good for the Reddies is what is good for the U.S.A., – - – but then I come to my senses.
Some of the Right-Leaning political junkies that I know love to yell, scream, bitch, complain and moan about how so many Liberals, Democrats and Progressives vote the way they do because the Gubmint - – - “Government” gives them “Free Stuff”, but they hardly ever seem to make mention that Red Stater Taters are the ones who really do get a sometimes disproportionately big portion of the “Free Stuff” as I have just explained in a previous statement about the distribution of Government dollars.
In my book, it is a damned good thing that most American Voters do not tend to agree with the Righties on this one – - – and I think that is the reason – - – at least one of the major reasons – - – that the Left keeps on winning the important elections and the Right keeps on sinking into the cesspool of idiocy a lot of them seem to be digging for themselves with each new failed idea or tred-worn policy they try to foist off on the country. I think things are looking up! I think that unless there is some major catastrophic game changer on the political landscape in America, the Righties are going to be following along behind the Liberal Camp for a whole lot of years yet to come – - – and personally I hope it is a long way behind. They seem to love regression so much I say “Let them have as much of it for themselves as they can garner.”
America is not stupid!
America has twice chosen themselves a president who is worthy of the title, who deserves the office and who is, by his compassionate and understanding nature and by his political skills learned in the service of The American Ideal, “worthy” to be president. This president has the knowledge, the common sense, the leadership qualities that I think will allow him to go down in History as one of our greatest Presidents – - – unless he makes some unfortunate mistake because of his humanity – - – all human beings are subject to making mistakes, of course.
I am a bit concerned that the president has been reported to have put social security and medicare on the negotiating table in the deficit talks, but even if that is true, I am hoping – - – and quite frankly, thinking – - – there might be some master strategy behind such an offer – - – a strategic move that will, in the final analysis actually be positive for the country. I have to wait and see on this one and I am kind of conflicted about it because I am a novice, an amateur and I do not know all the ins and outs of political maneuvering.
But I do have faith in the collective intellect of The American People and if they chose this President, then I know their choice will be justified because like I said before, “Americans are not dumb!”
The trolls will love this!
I know one thing if I don’t know much of anything else – - – I lived through eight of what I considered to be the worst years of American politics from 2000 to 2008 that I have ever lived in my 74 years and I do not think I am alone in this kind of thinking because there was a symbolic revolution of sorts in 2008 and that is how we got into the arena of “Hope and Change” with a vibrant new leader in the Oval Office – - – a leader with the approval of “The People,” the mindset of “The People” and care and compassion for “The People” such as I had not seen in several years.
The path of the nation has changed from one that looked like everything was in a downward spiral because of the excesses of the previous administration(s) and now the stock markets are on the upward swing, home mortgage foreclosures are dropping through the basement, employment is increasing, the auto industry is booming again – - and whether the intransigent and the obstructionist and their political concubines like it or not, the policies of this president have thus far been successful despite withering opposition from the sour grapes crowd.
That is kind of how I feel on a Sunday afternoon and I guess I have a right to my opinions.
By the way – - – for benefit of some of the conspiracy theorist nutwads – - – Obama has been in office for more than 4 years and three months now and I still do not see any Federal Troops moving from house to house on a gun confiscation spree and I have not yet seen the president declare martial law on the nation as some kind of supposedly “first action” to start the ball of a nutwad-imagined tyranny rolling – - – have you? Has anybody?
Well, I gotta go now because I just know in my heart that I have twisted the whiskers of some Rightie Trolls and they must be virtually wetting their pants waiting to come on here and talk mindless crap about me.
